Learn about Material Handling Machinery

When we say material handling machinery, these are all equipments that related to movement, control, protection and storage of materials, products and goods in the whole process from manufacturing, to distribution, to consumption, and up to disposal. Material handling machines are the mechanical machineries that were involved in a complete system.

4 Major types of material handling machinery

The equipment for storage and handling

The storage and handling is one category in the industry of material handling. The equipments that usually fall in this category are usually those non-automated storage machinery. Pallet racks, carts, shelving, etc. are products that belong to material storage and handling.

The Engineered systems

When we say engineered system, this is usually custom engineered handling system. Handling robots, conveyors, AS/RS’ and other automated material handling system falls in this category. The engineered systems often comprise of product combinations that’s been integrated into one system. Many distributors optimize their storage and picking of materials by using the engineered systems like pick modules and other sortation systems.

The Industrial trucks

The industrials trucks commonly refer to a motorized and operator driven vehicles. The industrial trucks support the system of material handling with versatility. The engineered systems are not able to go places unlike the industrial trucks. Some examples of industrial trucks are forklift, stock chasers and tow tractors.

The bulk material handling machinery

This machinery is used for moving and storing bulk materials like ore, cereals, and liquids. This kind of machinery is often used on farms, shipyards, refineries and mines.

Material handling machineries are used to enlarge output, to control costs, and to maximize productivity. There are some ways in which you can determine the efficiency progress in material handling machinery. These include gathering all necessary data that was related to the operation of warehouse , counting the times that an item has been “touched” starting from the time it was ordered to the time it leaves the warehouse or building, assuring the use of proper technology for picking, and keeping the downtime of system to its minimum.
