Metal Forming and Fabrication Processes

Metal fabrication is a process that involves machine constructions and structures to different sheet metals. In metal fabrication, metals are being process with different temperature.

There are three major processes in metal fabrication such as forming, cutting and the finishing process. Laser cutting, water jet cutting, wire cut EDM and electro discharge machining are just few of the modern techniques in sheet metal fabrication.

FORMING

It is a process that modifies the flat metal sheet into different form. There are different processes of forming metals such as annealing, bending, cold rolling, mechanical working, press forming, roll forming and drawing.

CUTTING

It refers to a process of altering the sheet’s shape by means of removing other unwanted materials within the sheet. Shearing, drilling, sawing, stamping punching and blanking are different cutting processes.

FINISHING

This is the final process used in sheet metal fabrication. Finishing refers to a process where the metal sheet was given a soft surface and finished using different finishing techniques, for examples sanding, application of visual design and vibration painting.

LASER CUTTING

This is a process of material cutting using the laser beam. The laser beam goes directly to metal surface and it allows the cutting accuracy level and complexity that any other cutting process could do.

WATER JET CUTTING

The most flexible cutting process is the water jet cutting. A mixture of abrasive substance and water or a jet of water within a high pressure and velocity are used in this process.

WIRE CUT EDM

This process is use to cut hard kind of metals which are too difficult for other machine methods to make tools, punches and dies. For cutting the programmed contour, this process used a metallic wire to cut it into one work piece. This method usually used for cutting the plates with 300 mm thickness.

ELECTTRICAL DISCHARGE MACHINING (EDM)

This process is available for making simple or complex shapes and geometrical shapes within the metal parts and body. So, when you’re looking for a high accuracy at low counts, the EDM manufacturing is more desirable and affordable manufacturing process.
